I was eager to try this new locally sourced restaurant. I wasn't disappointed. The chilled cucumber & avocado soup was delicious. The crab cake is huge and also very tasty. The surf and turf corn dog has a deceptive name. No dog, instead it is shrimp in a corn batter with ham bits in the batter. It was yummy. The shrimp and grits have a different twist as well, cheese gris with a beer based gravy and big Mayport shrimp. I'll definitely be back.

The food as well as the service here is fantastic!! Had the shrimp and grits. It was delicious. Just when I thought that couldn't be topped ; I had the blueberry cobbler for dessert and it was INCREDIBLE!!! The fish and vegetables here are super fresh. The only way this place could be improved would be to move closer to the beach and get rid of the 70's picture frames in the restaurant. Other than that this place is phenomenal!!!

Trying this place for the first time and I'm impressed. The food tastes as fresh as advertised, the staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Brian, our waiter to the time to answer our questions and even share personal stories. This was a wonderful lunch experience and we'll definitely come back to try dinner!

Ever since Anthony told us about 904, I had been looking forward to checking it out. Recently, our book club held our January meeting there and I got my chance. If you arrive after dark keep your eyes peeled because the sign is hard to see. Once we got in the place was pretty busy (there was a networking event happening but most of the tables were filled, too). Our waitress was very friendly and the setup was nice. I loved the big booths with large tables. They definitely added to the "farm to table" feel. Because of the networking event we even got to hear (or overhear, I guess) the chef talk about the idea behind the restaurant and all the local selections, which was nice. One of the people I was with ordered the surf and turf corn dogs as an appetizer so I tried one and really liked it. The breading was good and the meat inside was very flavorful. I had a really tough time deciding what to order (everything sounded fantastic!) but finally decided on a shrimp po' boy slider and a side order of macaroni and cheese. The slider was good but I did wish there had been more of the sauce they used. It had a tiny bit and it added a lot of good flavor but was only really in one bite. A friend ordered the same thing as I did and they brought us the sliders along with some fries. While the fries weren't bad they weren't remarkable Let's be real, though, this isn't a place you come for french fries. The macaroni and cheese was a pretty large serving for a side and it was great. It was really creamy and had tons of flavor without trying to do something crazy. It seems like a lot of places these days serve some "unique" version of mac and cheese. This is a really fantastic, basic mac and cheese. I love the crunchy topping, it just worked perfectly. Overall, I really enjoyed the concept, setup, and food at 904.

All the greens are delicious, particularly the rainbow chard!! Prices are great, customer service is awesome, and it has a lively, elegant atmosphere. I like to get three different sliders and a side because I can try the different flavors. Great spot!

Wahoo you did it Matt. You thoroughly impressed me. I have been wanted to return to your little gem for some time now. I finally had the chance and jumped on it. I was able to secure a seat at the bar. Which I do like to sit at cause it is dinner and a show for me. An avid cook guy myself I do enjoy watching my food being prepared. Tonight a went with the crab n bacon bisque that was full of crab and that heavenly meat bacon. It was very creamy with bit chunks of both meats. You could really taste the different flavors in the whole dish. From the corn to a creamy cheese then you get a hunk of bacon and some crab. A great start to a fun filled evening. I again stayed on the specials menu and went for the grouper. It was pan seared to perfection. I know a lot of folks say that cooked to perfection but this one was. There was a really nice crisp crust to the fish and it was so flaky. I mean just pluck off lay after layer of fishy yumminess. Matt even came over to make sure that everything was tasting good. We talked for a bit and he told me that he has a brand new well oiled brigade. They worked really well watching them pump out some good looking food. I almost wanted to chase down a couple of dishes armed with a fork. In all a fabulous dinner thanks to the whole crew at 904

This was an interesting new place for our beach outing this weekend. We usually won't go out on Friday and Saturday night, cause honey hates to wait. We made the trip out to the beach anyway since it was a newly opened place and we all know my honey usually can't wait to try a new place. This one did not disappoint. The locally sourced concept is always a huge draw for honey. I think the place itself needs to be rearranged, in my opinion. They have too many large tables and not enough 4 top tables. In my opinion it's just smarter to have more 4 tops that you can put together to make larger than to have to seat a couple at a 6 top table. The place is nicely decorated though, with the kitchen open to the dinning room, so for honey it's like dinner and show. Lol! The food was overall very good. We had chicken lollipops w/Datil sauce and the crab and mayport shrimp Mac and cheese. Both dishes were vey tasty, I just would have liked to have seen more crab and shrimp in the Mac and cheese. For my entree I had shrimp and grits with some amazing spicy Tasso ham chunks and a very hearty beer beef broth over everything. Fantastic dish! Honey chose the short rib over root vegetables, greens and grilled onions, Another superb dish! The meat was melt in your mouth tender and delicious. Honey's desert was Apple crisp, which was delivered with a fabulous salted Carmel ice cream on top. I wasn't sure if this was a deconstructed version of apple crisp or if he just got shorted on crisp part cause it was just baked apples which were very tasty. The dish was definitely not hot enough to melt the ice cream, but you really didn't care cause the ice cream was amazing! All in all the meal was great. We really enjoyed it. Will have this on our list of yummy beach outing spots but definitely for week nights.

Every thing was incredible, service was great, really nice open kitchen, and the food was absolutely top.

I ordered a 10 dollar crab cake that had all filler and no crab. The burger was pretty tasty. far from impressive. I'm definitely sticking with blind rabbit when I want a good meal

1st time I went the restaurant had only been open a few weeks, was completely disappointed, French fries were frozen, portion on fish sandwich was so small it didn't cover even half the bun it was on. The server didn't know the menu and brought out the wrong order twice. Talked to Matt about the concerns and he comped the meal. Decided I would wait for the growing pains to work out as it happens in new restaurants. The next visit I was underwhelmed yet again. The only things that improved where the service and the fries...still not a great experience, when I was told the catch was trigger fish and when it came to the table it was a very small piece of tile fish. On my third visit for Father's Day, the food was better but still I feel very pricey for small portions, 4ounce serving of local grouper on a salad was $20. I hope it gets better as I love to support local spots.

Wonderful little restaurant hidden in an unassuming strip mall just a few minutes off beach. Really is a bit of an odd spot for a place like this, but it works I suppose. The inside is kept well and as of now it's still a fairly new restaurant to the area although making quite the impact. I had the South Georgia Chicken chicken - breast with cage removed, pan seared, tasso ham gravy, and green beans served on roasted red bliss mashed potatoes. Also had the mac and cheese as a side. Both were cooked very well and would totally get again. Really enjoy the concept of this place and most definitely will be back for some more meals.
(5)Amanda G.
Truth: We sent back our meal The stars are for what came back after we questioned the overly dry fish. We ordered the catch of the day (flounder) with two sides. The gumbo side was A-mazing!! The other side was two, small crawfish with barely any meat. Not impressed. So the first time the flounder came it was SO overly cooked and dry, the second one was just perfect!!
(3)Lilly C.
I went at lunch time and we were sat right away. I had the burger with mac & cheese. The burger was very juicy and perfectly cooked. The Mac and Cheese was amazing. It was reasonably priced and I will definitely be going back for lunch.

Really enjoyed this little neighborhood gem!! Small restaurant off Penman Rd. When you walk in it is decorated tastefully and was packed!! There was a wait but we were offered any seat at the bar, so we walked right up and got some seats at the bar. To my pleasant surprise Our own Anthony was right there in front of us cooking!! He was manning the grill like a pro and it was great to see him! :) Now to the food..... The menu is "farm to table" a lot of yummy stuff on the menu...we started with the surf n turf corndogs which was shrimp longways on skewers, dipped in a thick batter with ham mixed in...totally yum we ate these very fast! For entrees we got the specials which was a fish dish with mango and blueberry compote on top served on rice with veggies ....delish, perfectly cooked fish and the fruit on top gave it such a fresh taste. The next was the Osso Buco....slow cooked pork just falling off the bone, this was cooked in a tomato sauce ,served with mashed potatoes and collard greens- I don't usually like collard greens but these were really good with a nice vinegar tang. We really enjoyed our dinner here and next time we're out by the beach we will keep this place in mind! A little side note when sitting by the bar if you sit on the side by the grill it gets really hot!! That grill throws some heat!

If you haven't given this farm to table restaurant a try, you are missing out! The chefs are passionate about their food and it shows. They source all of their ingredients from local farmers and even get their honey from a guy that lives in the neighborhood behind them. I recently attended an event hosted by Jax Restaurant Reviews and some places fail when serving 40 people a 6 course meal, but not 904, they were spot on! Glad Jacksonville has amazing places like this to eat instead of just chain restaurants.

Arrived early for lunch. Alex greeted us outside on the bench and told us to come on in for drinks. Alex was a great server and offered plenty of recommendations from the menu. Food was fresh and delicious and arrived quickly. Can't wait to go back for dinner and local brews.

Finally found a time to get in and try 904 Restaurant. I'm a huge fane of buying local and supporting local, These guys not only talk the talk but walk the walk. They support local bakeries, print shops and many local farmers. I had their 904 Burger, Pattie mix of short rib, brisket & chuck Topped with lettuce, tomato and Lemon Datil Aioli. Cooked med. It was absolutely one of the best burgers I have ever had. Cooked perfectly with juicy center and a crisp hint of char taste outside. The chef was gracious enough to sub the fries for onion rings. The Aoli sauce was soo good I wanted to take a pint of it home! I look forward to trying out the dinner menu selection.

I love a place that focuses on using fresh local ingredients, not because it's the trendy thing to do, but because everything tastes fresher. My wife and I went for her birthday and enjoyed our meal that included local vegetables (rainbow chard, mmm), regionally sourced chicken and other farm to table options. I appreciated visiting this local hangout for good food and unique flavor.

Solid 3.5 stars for this (still) new joint at the beach. Had an opportunity to check out 904 a little over a month ago for dinner with some friends. I will have to say I wasn't super impressed with my first visit; it was shortly after they officially opened, so I wasn't expecting them to knock it out of the park. The high points of the dinner (which we ate at the bar) were the mac & cheese side and the chocolate ganache dessert. Service was on point as well. They lost me on the crispy beeliner special. There was nice crisp to the skin & the acorn squash and jupiter rice bed was tasty. But all I could taste when I took a bite of the fish was salt. Holy Salt Lick Batman! I wasn't going to throw in the towel just yet. When I happened to be in the area for an alterations appointment, I decided to stop in and try them out for lunch and give them a second chance. I went in with an idea of what I wanted to order, but still perused the menu and checked out the specials, you know, just in case. I stuck with my original plan of the Shrimp Po'Boy slider and the Southern Chicken Slider; served with fries on the side. These two little buggers scored a double play compared to my last at bat attempt. The protein to bread ratio was just right. They were both fried to a golden glow. And the sauce/accoutrements were also in just the right portion as well. With beer & tip I was out the door for under $20. A win in my book. I haven't lost faith in this new place and hope to make it back soon to try them again for dinner. They were definitely hopping for dinner (and from what I'm told, usually are) however, lunch wasn't too hectic and definitely a quieter option for visiting if you want a nice change from the typical lunch fare.

First time here, will definitely be back. In town, preparing to move here from VA. Read some reviews and decided to give it a shot. It was a late night dinner so I decided to go with the chicken and fruit salad which was great! Will be back to try some other dishes!

I gotta say, 904 gets it right. I love the farm to table concept as much as I love the price point here. A lot of restaurants love this new trend of farm to table. I think it's fantastic as well. The problem is the cost always falls on the customer! 904 is able to deliver this at a way more affordable cost than say, Black Sheep. I was actually pretty surprised at the quality for the cost! I had the chef's steak ($15) which is served on a bed of fries and seasonal greens. The steak was excellent, a bit above medium rare but no worries, the flavor was excellent. It also helps when it's topped with bleu cheese. My date had 3 of the sliders ($12) with the mac and cheese. Unfortunately I didn't get to try sliders but they looked awesome, and she ate them all so that's a good sign. I did however get to try the mac and cheese, which was phenomenal. The sliders were $4 a piece, but if you order three it comes with a side. Again, for farm to table, this seems absurdly cheap in comparison to other restaurants. The other great part was how knowledgeable out server was! She could tell us nearly everything about where the food came from down to each ingredient! I was very impressed and eager to learn more. On top of all this, the food didn't take long at all to get out to us. Always get bonus points for that. I foresee myself spending a lot of time here. Great work guys!
(5)Marc M.
Fresh ingredients, locally sourced. Tasty and varied selections. I had the burger special with Brussels sprouts and rarely appreciated how they gave me the medium rare that I ordered....a rarity. My wife's Chef Bistro Salad w/ sautéed shrimp was "the best" she's ever had.
(5)Mona E.
Our food came quickly and was hot. I agree that the portions were smaller than other restaurants but still more than you should eat. Come on people! I had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were tender and large in size. But the dish should be named beer cheese shrimp and grits. The beer broth has a very strong beer taste. The grits were creamy, not really like your mommas grits. Sharp cheddar cheesy. I am thankful that the chef had a light hand with the salt. That was refreshing. My husband had the hog snapper with mashed potatoes and he changed the side from chard to the cucumber salad. He loved the cucumber salad and I did too. Delicious. Keep that coming. The fish had for bones in it. Not good in a filet. The mashed potatoes were garlicky and delicious. Those of you who have read my other reviews know I always check out the ladies room. I firmly believe if the ladies room is dirty, so is the kitchen. This one was clean and tidy but the toilet was out of order. I reported it to our server. She reported back to me within five minutes that it had been repaired. We will try this restaurant again. it's new. It has growing pains but it has much promise. I hope. I hope. So many wonderful restaurants are gone from the beach. I hope 904 can pick up the slack left when First Street Grill closed, or maybe The Rite Spot. Did you know that LTD had the best prime rib and fabulous bread pudding. No one has picked up that mantle. But 904 just might. One more thing. We say in a huge corner booth. Very comfy. I like the soft gray colors. Eat local.

I had the opportunity to re-visit 904 and was pleased to see that this experience lived up to what I had heard about and expected of it from other reviews. I do not often write reviews as thorough as I did (nor write updates for that matter) but knowing that it was a new place with tasty, creative food and a great concept, I wanted to see it succeed and thought it deserved the extra effort in detailed honesty. We had our second dinner on a Wednesday night and I was pleased to see they were pretty busy for midweek. No more wobbly table, no dead flowers, clean glasses all around - good start to our second attempt. We were greeted by our server Brian, who was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu and clued us in on further details regarding the "locally sourced" concept. He suggested specials and described their local beer selection clearly enough for my husband to gravitate to his wheat of choice. The main issues previously were related to service and Brian remedied that immediately. (note - Brian was not our previous server) We tried a different appetizer this round, the Surf and Turf corn dog which was definitely a different and creative take using panko bread crumbs and shrimp as the main meat but had minced ham in the mix along with a sort of sweet and spicy datil sauce. We also shared the soup special for the day - beer cheese. I've had a lot of beer cheese soups and many tend to be bland or one dimensional or even have a gritty or glue-like texture. This was none of those things. Really smooth texture and great flavor and sharpness from the cheese and whatever spices were used to make it really tasty. While not on the menu for the evening I asked if they could make the burger I had previously (yes, it was that good) and they quickly accommodated it with no problem. My husband tried the Grilled Pork Rib Eye with apple bacon jam which was flavorful and juicy. We tried the bread pudding for dessert which is apparently made by the Chef's mom. White and dark chocolate, cranberries, and vanilla ice cream and a firm but light texture. It really was one of the best bread puddings I've had. There was definitely a welcoming feeling this time and we could see the effort in service not only for us but in the other interactions I witnessed. We also had a quick greeting by the Chef and through our few minutes of chatting saw his passion for what he does, his want for his guests to enjoy themselves and have a great experience, and effort put in to making his restaurant truly local. Based on all of that we most certainly will be back soon.
(5)Jill C.
This place is still new so they have a few kinks to work out in terms of seasoning, but they have a winner with the shrimp and grits! I loved the addition of the Tasso ham gravy, that really makes the dish. It was one of the best shrimp and grits in Jax! I also got the crab Mac and cheese. It was slightly lacking in flavor, but it was still pretty good. For the shrimp and grits alone, I would definitely go back!

I was there with a party of 15 for Tasty Tuesday's. Chef Amadeus' curry wings were amazing there just wasn't enough wings to enjoy. The Latin stout wings were so delicious. I thought they would be sweet, but it was the right amount that didn't overpower the taste. I would like to see actually chicken wings instead of lollipop wings. The braised lamb shank with Bok Choy and mint Jus was my favorite dish. I'd get it again but with the sauce on the side. I didn't care for my mash potatoes swimming in gravy (just my personal opinion). I think Boston Chef (Matt) and 904 restaurant has no place to go but up. I was impressed with the time he spent front of the house bussing tables, taking orders, checking on guest and delivering food. I think more chefs should gather first hand what people are saying about their food.
(5)Barbara G.
Two girlfriends and I visited for lunch today, and while the service was fine, overall the food was just meh. Only one of us was truly happy with their meal. She had the Green Bean Salad, and thoroughly enjoyed the roasted beets and goat cheese that covered the blanched green beans. I ordered the Crab and shrimp cake as an app for us all to try. It was huge but do not expect any lumps of crab or shrimp, and it had too much filler. I liked the flavor, but my friends did not and only ate one bite. Two of us ordered the Cuban Sandwich, The heavy spicy rub on the pork over powered the sandwich so much that we each only had a few bites. ( and it is not that I don't like spicy, I just wanted to enjoy something besides the overpowering flavor of the rub) The waitress offered to get us something else, but we were both turned off and declined. We also tried the Mac and Cheese and it was yummy. A side is a HUGE bowl enough for a meal. The waitress offered us a brownie to take home to make up for us not liking our meals It was gooey and fudgy. I can tell you we wont be going back and will not send anyone else this way--too many other places to try in Jax.

Excellent! Food and portions were appropriate. Shauna put excellence in customer service!
(4)Matt M.
My son and I stopped by here for takeout one day, after a full day of doing father-son things. He was tired and not in the mood for a long sit down meal, so based on other Yelp reviews, we gave 904 a shot and it was a good shot with a solid 3.5 star performance. We tried both the Osso Bucco, Shrimp and Grits and the lollipop wings. All good, but the Shrimp and Grits borderlined on outstanding. The interior was nice and clean and we were greeted and given our take out quickly. Since we did not dine in, I really cannot comment on the service. All in all, a good choice for us.
(4)Mike P.
Hit the beaches for this great restaurant! Matt (owner/chef) has created a really nice "farm to table" locally acquired cuisine style place. The menu has a wide range of apps and entrees. Daily specials and ridiculous deserts are the norm. I definitely recommend the Apple Crisp desert. See pic. Keep up the good work Matt!
(5)Anna H.
Sooooo this is the addendum to the previous review. There were no desserts at the soft opening on Saturday night. To say we were disappointed would be a understatement. But mom taught me good things were worth waiting for. It may be the only thing she got right. Tonight was the official Grand opening . It was slow at first but it turned into a late crowd that filled the restaurant. We appreciated we had a stellar spot. So the desert menu will change according to what is the freshest and available. You know farm to table, not freezer to table. There were four items but once I saw the words chocolate and salted Carmel I blanked. Flourless chocolate cake with fresh strawberries (think plucked from the plant fresh) and a chocolate cream...Orgasmic...cake moist, rich and oh so chocolaty. Is that a word? Our second choice Apple Crisp with salted Carmel ice cream. This dessert is an award winning dish in Boston and once people taste this will be award worthy as well. I know nothing about Apple Crisp other than it now replaces cannoli as my most favorite dessert in life. These are must try items. I can see this will be on my go to places , I already have some favorite dishes after only 2 visits.....Yhea I'm hooked....
(4)Diana M.
My only complaint about this restaurant is the quantity of non-seafood choices. It would be nice to have more options as a non-seafood eater. I have tried their steak & their burger and both were excellent. As is their mac & cheese. We could pretty much crawl to this restaurant from our house so I'm certain we will be here often.
(4)Lara S.
This place is a gem. Love the Farm to Table concept, the creative menu, the comfortable yet upscale atmosphere and the friendly staff. Shrimp and grits were delicious.
(5)Elisa P.
I was so throughly impressed with 904..the atmosphere..our service by Shauna was stellar..and the food was all fabulous. You can't beat getting homemade food at restaurant for very resonable prices..and what's even better, we got to purchase the Strawberry Jalapeño Datil Jam..yahoo!
(5)Ross H.
I'd give this place an average...meh...farm to table concept is admirable and appreciated, but they miss the mark. Not worth it for the price either! Moving on from this place...
(3)Suzanne S.
The shrimp & grits were amazing, so creamy and delicious! Beet salad is so good, love it. The blueberry crisp dessert was made by the chef's mother, so sweet and amazing! We found this gem of a restaurant through the Jacksonville Restaurant Review event, and I will definitely be back. The chef came out and spoke about each course and where it came from. They obviously care about getting food locally and not from some place halfway across the continent. Brian out waiter was very knowledgable and asked our opinion of the food.

904 where do I start a lot to go over here! This is a new eatery and has been only open about eight weeks I believe located on Pennman Road just off Beach Blvd. I first walked in and was not what I expected but was very quaint and laid-back. There were wooden ledges around the restaurant with little jars of preserves, vegetables, bottles of wine, and sauces. Smart thinking functional and pretty it fits in with the farm to table concept good stuff. There were five of us together that night. We were all very excited we all got a different appetizer to pass around and share. Some of the ladies at our table ordered chicken wings I did not try them but they said they were delicious and had a lemon flavor. I ordered a Florida burger slider which contained bacon and blue cheese with a side of fries and also the crabcake. This was pretty good wished it was cooked a little more pink inside the buttery bread paired all the flavors together and made it amazing. However that crabcake rocked my world! I seriously could've just ate 10 of those for dinner! One of the other ladies ordered the surf and turf corndogs this we were a little confused by. It's pretty much just sweet shrimp covered in Panko and fried on a skewer nonetheless delicious but the name just threw us off a little bit on exactly what we would be eating. When we first arrived I asked for a glass of red wine the waitress was reading off the names not sounding too sure so I told her just to bring me a Merlot so we will get to that later. My husband ordered a beer actually during dinner he had 2. Here comes dinner my husband had the tilefish with fresh vegetables I had the pork chop steak with delicious turnip croquettes and mac & cheese. My husband hates turnips just an example of how good they were he tried one of them and he ate 2 more it came with a sweet sesame seed kind of dip it made the turnip that much better. The mac & cheese was not your traditional yellow or orange cheese blend it was a mellow white and it was very creamy melted in your mouth the only thing with this there were just crumbs placed on top I would've loved to have those toasted but it was still delish! Onto the main item pork chop steak delicious flavor grilled and cooked perfectly was supposed to contain some type of cranberry butter I did not see nor really taste. I tried my husbands tilefish and it was the most delicious flaky amazing fish I've had in such a long time. Time for dessert! My husband and I shared the chocolate mousse cake and ordered 2 cups of coffee. The cake was divine layered out cake and mousse with chocolate shavings on top it was a dark chocolate so it was not too rich. I'm not quite sure what the coffee Brand was the waitress told me I forgot but it was a bit bitter. Maybe that's just me my husband calls me a coffee snob lol! Now the topic of coin! I get my check everything looks good until I get to the special the tilefish which is a $24 entrée she explained it as a special when a waitress says this to me I'm thinking it is a special price for this evening but instead it's more like a chef specialty I think in this case and it's more of a market price. If it is a special I would think it would be about $5 cheaper it was a pretty healthy portion of fish with a handful of carrots nothing else. Everything else was fine but we get to the coffee. My bitter coffee was $4 a cup yikes! This is the same bitter coffee that I did not finish drinking so for my husband and I to partake in this was $8. So then I take a look at his beer both cost $8 my wine one glass which was not filled completely under half cost $8. I guess with beverages $8 is the magic number. So just liquid consumption cost me $24 this evening more than the cost of my 2 appetizers! Not a fan of that but I did not hesitate to pay. I understand being a foodie and visiting different restaurants that food cost must be paid for. This is understandable especially coming from a farm to table atmosphere hats off to the chefs that must be a tricky feat. But when it comes to beverages that's a bit much. Besides that con the food was absolutely amazing everything perfect atmosphere was very fun and laid-back not too loud wonderful music was played in the background it could be heard but not so loud you can have a conversation. The waitress was very nice she does need a little polishing. But once again remember people this restaurant is new so once open you do have kinks to work out and I understand that so besides a of couple cons which were not a huge deal hats off to you 904 and Congratulations Chef Matt! This girl will be back!

We had a groupon , and I was anxious to try. Have gone there for previous restaurants that were in this location , and this is the best! LOVE the locally sourced, fresh foods with good taste idea! Got there at 6 on a Saturday and glad we did, filled up 15 min after that. Had good choices for veggies lovers AND meat lovers. I had the veggie trio, brussels sprout were delish, turnips as good as home fries, but collards a bit too spicy-sweet. Friend had the tile fish and said was wonderful, hubby had the steak (rare!). We all agreed the food was great! Even hubby who is a bit harsh on grading steak preparation. Said it was almost the best he has had in Jax, and the fries too. Only bad thing, was the NOISE!! There were no calming devices, and the noise bounced around the room like a racquetball court! Hubby has Tinnitus, and that in combo with the noise was too much, he started to get nauseous and left. Later told me how good his food was, but that he cannot go back there again. Granted, this is extreme situation, but I post it hoping they will see and put in some changes to tone it down. Maybe I will get to go back there (with him) again, then...

Not ready for prime time. Portions too small. Prices too high. Lackluster presentation. Did not have advertised menu items. Service spotty. Server with hideous large nose ring nobody could stomach, dyed bright streaked red hair and gross tattoos...too bad...she was pretty under all that nonsense. Place was over staffed with idle servers. Food was nothing to write home about. No bread even for the asking. Campy no salt and pepper on table vibe. Decor was nice. Get over the farm to table handle and start serving a decent meal.

Wow! I had the burger, this was one of the best burgers I have had. Others had, pork chop, chicken and daily vegetables. Its the Farm to Table dining. Everything was great.

YUM! Our first time here & it certainly won't be the last. Delicious, fresh food, comfortable atmosphere & friendly attentive service - what more could you ask for?!

I had dinner again tonight and must say the Georgia chicken was perfect. I read a couple recent reviews and in my opinion the value is anything but justified and the portions are not small - I am not a light eater by any means. We spent $30 for two great entrees, and there was plenty of food. I was impressed with the quality and flavor of the meat tonight. It wasn't your typical overgrown bland chicken and pork. We are so glad to have quality like this in out neighborhood.

Been a couple times for the fish and burger both pretty good probably one of the better restaurants at the beach. The shrimp and grits aren't all there hyped up to be small shrimp and just ok grits. Small portions.

Without a doubt, one of the best meals I've ever had. Tonight's special was a vermillion snapper with rice n Swiss chard - Sooo glad I opted for this incredible dish! Not to mention the lump crab n mayport shrimp cake app with a delightful aioli sauce that had a nice kick to it. Only to be followed up with the most mouth watering homemade Apple crisp and salted caramel ice cream dessert (how could I resist!!!) My only regret is that I haven't been here sooner! Can't wait to go back and try everything else :) Love the farm to table concept and it's refreshing to see a chef so passionate about what he's bringing to the table! Looking forward to many more meals here!

This restaurant had an awesome vibe to it. I have been in there when it was previously Beach Buds and also the Moon, but the renovations that 904 pulled together were fantastic. Beautiful wood tables and comfy seats along with a great staff who took care of my entire family (mind you that was not an easy task) Our server was Jacob and he was extremely friendly. Was very attentive but also talked about the local venues to go to. Drinks were also locally drafted and tasted delicious! I had the short rib sliders and could not have been more pleased. The chef did an awesome job and we had our server relay that message. I also had the side of mac and cheese and good grief! What an incredible dish! Overall, so pleased we found this great new local spot!!

Awesome food and super friendly service. But does NOT have a full bar. Beer and wine only. Had the shrimp bisque soup; a little spicey for my taste, but still great. Crabcake appetizer was AMAZING. They had a blackened Grouper special that we were able to get fried instead. OMG, SOOOOO good!!!!! I will be back!!

Being from Cleveland, I cannot speak to how this restaurant compares to others in JAX, but I can speak to how this place would stack up at home, and it would definitely hold its own. Do not let the strip mall location fool you, or even the modest interior and menu presentation. This place does it right. Welcoming, friendly, informed and attentive staff. Farm to table is the theme here, fresh, never frozen, local food and produce, supporting the local growers and producers. You know what you are eating here. The menu is not large, but it changes with what is available and in season, and every dish was well prepared and presented. I wish I had taken pictures. I had the strip steak that was perfectly prepared and had a wonderful flavor. Grass fed beef. I chose the seasonal greens as a side, which today was swiss chard. Delish. My significant other had the braised shortribs, with the seasonal root vegetable, which today was turnips and he also had the swiss chard. He raved about it and cleaned his plate. To top it all off, they have a nice craft beer selection, and while we did not have room for it, we heard the owner's wife makes a to-die-for apple crisp. We stumbled upon 904 and were very pleasantly surprised. We have been in the Jacksonville area for a week, staying at the Marriott TPC Sawgrass. This was hands down our best meal, and decidedly the best value. If we find our way back to the area, this will be the first place we go to. I know it will still be here, because they do it right. Go. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Just tried this place out tonight (apparently, they've been open since January.) Once inside, the decor is simple and the place is rather small, but it is appealing. Our waiter, Brian, was very animated and lots of fun. We started with the Surf & Turf corn dog appetizer (which was actually breaded shrimp with an interesting dipping sauce) and they were good. I had the mahi mahi with potatoes and kale for my entree and it was amazing. My hubby, Billy, and our friend, Lori, both had the South Georgia chicken entree and said it was delicious. Lori's hubby, Jack, had the 904 burger with mac & cheese and said he'd definitely be back. BTW, the burger was huge! The prices are very reasonable and I can't wait to go back to try the shrimp and grits. They don't take reservations and were quite packed by 730 pm, so I say go early if you can and enjoy!

Our first time here, will be back. Everything fresh except the French fries?? Don't bother! The mashed red bliss potatoes were great. Husband had the NY strip steak, which was excellent. Mimi & I had the trigger fish sandwich which was good, but. @ $14 the piece of fish was very small. Our server Brian was prompt, pleasant & very knowledgable about the menu. Looking forward to summer veggie menu!

The surf and turn corn dogs were awesome. Shrimp and tazo ham in a light batter on a stick with some great house made pepper jelly. A nice starter!

I love the concept and the people working at 904 are really great, but.., the food was just not up to par. I had shrimp and grits and the grits were super dry and frankly it all lacked taste. My wife chose the grilled chicken w crab and tomato sauce, but it had no crab and the sauce was dry, almost like a thick gravy. Lastly, the decor and ambience was fine, but it was really warm inside which helped make the whole experience a bit of a disappointment. I like supporting locally owned restaurants, but I'm not sure if we will give it a go in the future.

I love this place! All locally sourced! The waiter was so friendly and welcoming :) totally recommend it! The grouper was on point!

Great prices, great fresh food. Especially loved the dandelion greens! Get there early :)

My husband and I visited 904 restaurant a week ago. It was a very pleasant experience. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We will be back. I highly recommend the shrimp and grits!

I really wanted to like this restaurant due to its farm to table theme but I was disappointed on all fronts. We went on a Monday night for dinner and the place was reasonably full but not overwhelming. There were many servers but our service was ridiculously slow. We probably would have ordered more if we saw our server more than once. You could sense that they couldn't handle a restaurant 70% full of patrons but the most irritating part was most of the servers were talking amongst themselves instead of actually doing their jobs. We ordered a slider which was really good and main entrees and a dessert. The food was very tasty overall but our dessert was burnt and we both ended up with pretty bad stomach aches. The sever told us they only have one small refrigerator so I believe that we probably had a slight case of food poisoning. Overall, not worth your health or cost.

This is one of those places where the management just gets it. They know what their customers want and they give them what they want: good quality, great service, at reasonable prices. You eat whatever is on season locally, prepared magnificently. The waiters and waitresses are awesome and professional. Just go. You'll see. 'Nuff said!

A great new addition to the beach dining scene, 904 features fresh local farm-to-table food prepared with flair. The shrimp and crab cake appetizer was all meat, no filler, and cooked perfectly. It was easily big enough for two. My only, slight, concern was that it was under-seasoned, but that did let the delicate flavor of the seafood come through. The snapper special, sautéed in a chorizo crust with a Tasso ham sauce, was delicious. And the braised, grass-fed short rib was the best I've ever eaten. All of the sides were quite tasty, as well With a seasonal menu that is always changing, there are plenty of reasons to come back. And we will. Often.

In town for work - stumbled across this place and had a really good experience. I was completely taken care of by Melissa who I assumed was the proprietor because of her ownership of my experience and how knowledgeable she was of the menu. She provided me a level of service (and I was just at the bar). My meal: - lollipop wings - really good - shrimp and grits - good and hearty, but I should have had the Pork Osso Bucco per Melissa's recommendation - apple tart - good but way too much. Best part was the caramel ice cream Well done, good meal!

Authentic high quality southern menu, how refreshing. The real deal. The staff was in the know and very pleasant. The sense of local support and sense of community was much appreciated. Farm to Table concept that is well done.

While I am giving this 3 out of 5 stars, let me state: we will go to 904 again. It has a TON of potential to be really great, it just wasn't on the night we went. We decided to give it a try after a friend went and said it was really good. Saturday night was when we went so we weren't put off that we had to wait a little bit. The host (who really needs a host's stand. He just blended in and people had no idea how or who to check in with for the most part) told us it would be a 15 or 20 minute wait. It really ended up being more like 45 or 50, while he sat other, larger parties that came in after us- not cool. The dining area is pretty small, with 2 tables by the door being pretty well the least desirable place you might want to be on a cold night as it was. Many people felt the same, so those tables remained open for a large portion of time. When we did get seated, our waitress ran through the specials and gave us her recomendations. She did a good job through most of the night. She was clearly running around trying to keep her tables happy. She also told us what was no longer available from the menu, and it was a lot of items they were out of. There were maybe only 2 appetizer choices left and they had run out of 2 or 3 entrees. This was surprising as it was Saturday night, peak time. Our waitress simply stated that the restaurant's refrigerators weren't big enough to hold all the different food they needed..... It's a weird explanation and something that could be planned around, either with a simpler menu or taking reservations to better gauge your portions, but it is what it is, as they say. We ended up splitting 2 sliders for appetizers: I had the steak, cheese and caramelized onion while my husband had the bacon, blue cheese and arugula. They were tasty, though the steak was a bit tough. Each came with a portion of fries that were absolutely delicious-- crispy and warm. They had just run out of ketchup though (they only had those tiny, glass, single serve bottles for some reason) and gave us a used half one of those, which was kind of off putting. For dinner, my husband had the shrimp and grits, which was tasty, and I had the roast chicken with rainbow chard and cucumber salad. The chicken was tasty, perhaps just a bit dry and the cucumber salad was crisp and refreshing. The chard, however, was not good. There's no two ways about that. I love greens of all kinds, but these had a heavy, almost acrid taste. It actually gave me a bit of a sour feeling in my stomach. The price for all of this, plus 2 drinks was $50, which seemed extremely reasonable to us. There is a lot about this restaurant that needs to get ironed out but it seems like its got a good footing. The food is creative and interesting and a bit different then what you can find at other places in the area. If they can just straighten out the rough edges, they'll have something really great here. So while our meal was marginal to average, they've only been open a month and a half so we will give them some time and try again.

I really really really wanted to love this place. The whole farm to table thing is something I really enjoy. However I found my food sub par. I had the southern chicken which was overly dried out, and the boyfriend had the shrimp in grits which was plastered in some sort of unsavory brown gravy. With drinks our bill came out to about $70-80. Two stars for the service because everyone working was really friendly. I wouldn't be against trying it again as it is a new restaurant and they probably have some kinks to work out.

I agree - not ready for prime time. We went for lunch yesterday. This was our first visit. We waited about 5 minutes before somebody acknowledged us and seated us at a table. We waited 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us at the table and brought water. The restautant was out of lunch menus (whatever that means) so we had to order off of the dinner menu and told not to order entree (dinner) items. We ordered three different items that were on the menu before we were able to find a menu item that they were not out of. The chicken slider and hamburger sliders were just okay (good buns), but the french fries were not hot. They have a number of problems (server training, timliness of getting hot food from the kitchen to the table, seating customers) they need to work out to be ready for prime time.

Stopped in for a quick lunch with my bride. Thought this is a relatively new spot that promotes locally sourced food. We got there a little after 1st sat at the bar facing the open kitchen. The service was friendly but unfortunately slow. I'm OK with that , no rush. The food was not good! The wife ordered a crispy chicken slider, said to come with lettuce, tomato and fries. I ordered a sausage app and house salad. The chicken was very small, even for a slider. Worst of all it was breaded in their fish breading, in the same container the cook just breaded shrimp in. Talking cross contamination there! No lettuce or tomato and 8 to10 fries. The sausage was OK but the cook cut it up in front of us on a messy cutting board and used his bare hands. I never saw him wash them at all. The overall impression of the kitchen was not clean. I felt the portions were small for the price. If you have an open kitchen and encourage patrons to watch...be clean , and watch your food handling skills .
(1)Sara D.
The food is amazing! I've had their sliders both times I've been because they're that good. The Mac n cheese is the best I've ever had and the owner or manager was so gracious. Over all it's one of the best restaurants in Jax beach.
(5)Michelle K.
What a welcome addition to the food scene at the beach. Tonight I had the pleasure of enjoying the pan fried flounder with potato and sausage hash and collard greens. Excellent choice. The crab and shrimp cakes made an awesome appetizer. You must eat there!

Impressive. I had the opportunity to eat at 904 on 6.17.15 with my family. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is very simple and clean. I love the homemade jars of goodies along the shelves and the herbs that are growing by the window. Our waiter was Brian and he was very knowledgeable about the menu and how everything tastes. We had the Fresh Catch and I can tell you this was the best piece of grouper I've tasted in a long time. It was thick and meaty and flakey and not over cooked or seasoned. You can taste the freshness. We also had the shrimp corn dogs and smoked wings. Everything was great. The bread pudding had cranberries, Ghirardelli chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Fantastic. It is a little pricey, but you only get what you pay for. The best part of the meal is actually seeing the local farmers dropping off the produce while you eat. So the same squash that is walking in the door, is literally on your plate within minutes. That's farm to table! Well done, 904! We'll be back soon!

I guess the previous reviews got my expectations up pretty high. I was excited to try this new "from farm to table" restaurant but was really disappointed. We came in kind of late so it seemed everything we wanted to try was sold out. Then the dishes we ended up ordering came out different from what the menu description was. We asked the server about this & he said some of the dishes have changed away from the printed menu. We started with the lollipop wings & asked for the hottest sauce they had - we got the opposite - server gave us a side of the sauce we actually wanted but it did not pair well with the sweet sauce that they were already doused in. The steak was bland - no sauce of any kind available. I personally had the special of the evening which was a fish over grits. Perhaps Safe Harbor has ruined me. I am accustomed to fish flaking when you eat it. My fish here was rubbery like it was cooked in a microwave. The grits were good though. Nearly a hundred dollars later (we had two beers & two glasses of wine between the both of us) we left hungry. The server cleared the table with all our food still on the plates & no one really asked why we didn't eat our food which was surprising but prevented that moment of awkwardness.

My wife and I were the first diners on opening night. The food was outstanding (fresh, well balanced and seasoned). Artfully presentation and a great atmosphere. The Chef and staff are something you will enjoy--a must dine
(5)Paulette A.
I was totally not impressed with the food and felt the portions were very small. I had a crab shrimp cake and ordered two sides. The "cake" was very tasty and served on top of the "sides" - turnip greens and sweet potatoes. The sides were each $4 but there was probably only a couple tablespoons of each -- quite disappointing. We sat at the bar and the grill and wall behind the grill was like a greasy spoon for a new restaurant. We were very disappointed and will not go back.

Food was delicious, service was friendly and prompt. We had trigger fish special along with surf & turf corn dog. Got to try that. Can't wait for our next trip.

Definitely worth a visit. Will return. Crowded early on a Saturday evening, this small restaurant offers eclectic fresh fair. The friendly and informative server told us they have only one tiny freezer for the homemade ice cream. An order of hot tea was cheerily met, as were requests for small changes to the entrees. We met the chef-owner who shared his recipe for the one of their roots veggie side dishes. The kitchen is open to the bar area, which also boasts some high tops. The sliders were interesting combinations and the fish special with sides was enjoyed. There is lots more to try, so we will be back. One word of caution, and the reason this establishment was not given five star, the wait for attention from a server was rather long. We were passed by more than once and diners arriving after us were addressed before we were. The server who finally came over to us, was very helpful and explained that the staff was not clear on which server was assigned to our table. He actually was working a different area, but noticed us and served us. They don't accept reservations. At 6 pm a Saturday, we had the choice of one table in the dining area or a high top. We left about 7:30, and there seemed to be a bit of a lull. The bar had filled and the high tops, but the dining area had a few empty tables.

Not impressed. Tasted like fast food. Cheap feeling ambiance. Not worth it.

Let me start out by saying that I created my yelp account just to create a review for this restaurant. Phenomenal food and service. I have been here a few times so far. Let's break it down. The food: The food is fresh and the farm to table aspect adds flavors you don't find many other places. My first time in was for lunch and I got to witness one of their farmers walk in with fresh greens. My server explained to me that the greens walking in were from barnyard farms and talked about a few of the other farms they work with. I got the special fish sandwich because he explained the freshness of their fish and even gave me a distinct flavor profile. Reading through some of the reviews for this establishment I see that some people automatically assume where things are coming from based on other places they eat. I talked to the chef personally and was glad to hear they don't deal with safe harbor. Also, I can't see a microwave anywhere... its an open kitchen! So if you don't know, ask! I got the fresh greens for my side which I believe was rainbow? Chard. Holy crap I never thought leafy greens could taste so good! My meal was fantastic and the fish couldn't have been cooked more perfect or tasted less than amazing! I've seen them on other occasions scaling and filleting whole fish brought on ice. Incredible. The service: wasn't good... It was GREAT! Jacob was extremely knowledgeable and had a detailed answer for all my questions. He explained the farms, various dishes and even let me try some sort of herb that is native to the Andes! My whole experience was very enjoyable and the past few times I've been in I have sat at the bar and had the same great time. This place is going to make it I'm sure. The guy with the tattoos in the kitchen is a machine. Its nice to actually see and be able to appreciate their work and talent! Definitely a must try. This restaurant is a new concept so I recommend you take a couple visits and try various things including their fish specials. DELICIOUS!!!

Tonight was our first visit to 904 and our reviews are mixed. The meat entries were both delicious. My husband declared his burger one of the top 20% of burgers he's had and my pork loin was tasty, juicy, tender and served nice and hot. Unfortunately all of the side dishes we had were luke warm at best --even the sauted brussels sprouts which were plated under the nice hot pork. We complained about the cold French fries which were served with my husband's burger and they did bring a replacement dish of fries which he said were very good. My macaroni and cheese would have been spectacular if it had been served piping hot. Service was slow even though the restaurant was only about a quarter full. We asked for salt and pepper as our dinners were served ( not on any of the tables in the restaurant) and I watched the waitress wander around the connecting dining room looking for some on the occupied tables (Why does this restaurant not have enough salt and pepper sets for each table?). Overall, our impression is that this could be a great restaurant if they can fine tune the service issues of speed and hot food. We'll give them a few months and try again.
